Douglas fir Christmas tree field
Douglas fir Christmas trees are intended for use in areas not subject to intense freezing conditions. Since 1983, Santa & Sons has shipped wholesale Douglas fir Christmas trees to Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and California.

A full 53' semi trailer load will hold about 750 - 850 Douglas fir Christmas trees 5'-8' tall. Douglas fir and Noble Fir can be combined into a single trailer load. However, since we do not grow Douglas fir and Noble Fir at the same elevation, the two types of Christmas tree fields are some distance apart and two stops are required to mix truck loads.

Douglas fir needles   Douglas fir Christmas trees have very fine soft green needles with a pine like scent. With its full bushy appearance, Douglas Fir is the easiest Christmas tree to decorate. Its upright branches leave plenty of room for regular size Christmas ornaments and lights. Competitively priced, Douglas fir provides retail Christmas tree lots with a great offering for budget minded customers.

Mark shearing a Christmas Tree
Douglas fir is the first tree we learned to grow when we started working in Oregon on the wholesale Christmas tree farms and it remains the most popular Christmas tree in many markets. Today, as in this 1981 photo of owner Mark Rohlfs, every tree is still sheared by hand each summer. Soil and climate conditions on the plantations where they are grown are perfect for producing healthy, high quality trees.

Inspecting Douglas fir fields each year after they have been sheared is essential to check the Christmas trees for plant diseases and insects like Swiss Needle Cast and Needle Midge that appear only in Douglas fir. Expert knowledge and attention to detail means you get exactly the trees you need from from Santa & Sons Christmas Trees.
